The International Organization of Wine and Vineyards define a drink as
"Wine is a drink, derivable by full or partial spirit fermentation of must".

It is generally known that in countries of progressive wine-making and viticulture (France, Spain, Germany, Italy and others) drink, which is derivable just as a result of dried fig fermentation, called "wine". In Moldova the word "wine" is used with respect to drinks, derivable by apple juice fermentation.

Moldovan wine classification is differentiated by social, economic and technological features.
For many years viticulture and winemaking in Moldova were the general occupation of the population. Evidence of this is in historical memorials and documents, folklore, and the Moldovan spoken language. The historic development of the territory has been inseparably linked with the development of winemaking, and includes several periods.
